Athena World Cup Soccer

STRUCTURE: This is a connous arena event. one player (The event manager) is designated to be the "ball", and assigned to the red team. Participants will be assigned to the "blue" team and only allowed to attack the "ball". Each team must have exactly three members. Participants will be asked to wear robes the color of their secondary team (primary team being the blue team, secondary team being the three-member team). In the event the ball dies, it will be considered a ring out and the game will resume wherever the ball spawns

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the game is to hit the ball over to the wall designated as the goal for your team. As such, knockback skills should be prioritized. Matches will be randomized after registration, in an elimination-style tournament bracket. Players not in an official game may spectate or continue to play, but no prizes will be given for either.

PLAYER RESTRICTIONS: Each player MUST have bare hands (no equipment) in their primary equipment slot. ONCE PER MATCH, each player may decide to specialize in range, magic, alchemy, puppeteer or fighter by equipping the corresponding equipment. (Bow, crossbow, or alatl for range, wands or staff for magic, cylinders for alchemy, handles for puppeteer and knuckles for fighter). NO KNOCKBACK, ATTACK SPEED, CHARGE TIME OR COOLDOWN BUFFS FROM EQUIPMENT SETS, UPGRADES, ENCHANTS OR REFORGES. Damage, durability and critical are ok. A player may decide to switch specialization ONLY BEFORE OR AFTER A MATCH. Switching during a match will result in a red card and suspension from the current game.

BANNED SKILLS: Wire Hold, Wire pull, Crisis, Ice spear, Frozen blast, Spider shot, Discord, Mirage missile. Use of any of these skills will be considered to be a foul, and the offending member will be given a yellow card, or red card if a blatant violation of the rules.

OFFENSIVE MECHANICS

Eligible skills in rank of knockback:
Windblast (1080)
Drop Kick (~850)
Blaze (800)
Climactic crash (~650 from puppet)
Smash(~500)
Magnum(~500)
Pummel (~500)
Windmill(~500)
Thunder (~500)
Hail storm (~500)
Inciting Incident (~450 from puppet)
Rising Action (~450 from puppet)
Firebolt (~450)
Water Canon(~450)
Thunderbolt-2+ charge (~450)
Knockback due to stun (~400)

DEFENSIVE MECHANICS

Skills such as Smash give invincibility frames to the target, making it untargetable for a small duration. Therefore, smash can be used defensively to cancel wind blast, fighter chains, or other knock back. Walls and pummel also cancel knockback,

STRATEGY BY CLASS


Melee: attempt to control the ball's direction using windmill and smash, especially after the team advances. Try to position yourself between the ball and your own goal. Counter this with well-organized offensive pushes by your team.

Range: attempt to assist your team mates with a magnum shot at opportune times. Counter this with consistent smashing to deny any firing opportunities.

Magic: Position well, and utilize ice x fire fusion magic to knock back 5 times. Hailstorm is also an effective way to deal consistent knockback. If an enemy is charging, use the opportunity to push forward.

Alchemy: Remember that alchemy has poor knockback apart from windblast, which incurs a cooldown after two consecutive uses. Use the windblast wisely, and counter it by knocking back the ball before the alchemist can windblast it (wind blast must be in smash range for full knockback)

Puppeteer: Remember to place your puppets where the action will be, and remember that CRISIS IS BANNED. Puppeteers can control marionettes from ~400 distance on top of the ~400 distance from puppet skills, making them effective at great ranges. Counter puppeteers by knocking the ball away from the puppets, and taking advantage of repositioning time

Fighter: Be very careful with your chains, as they have high cool down and can be interuppted easily. use pummel if your team needs a breather or time to set up skills, and dropkick for offensive pushes, but be aware that both skills can be denied by smashing earlier chains.



TIME AND ELIGIBILITY

This event is planned for Saturday, August third at 5PM PST, two hours before the Tara banquet. This event has been postponed indefinitely until at least two teams register. The event will be held a week after the brackets have been finalized. Teams may be composed of any current Athena members or alternative accounts of said Athena members. Please register your teams ASAP, tournament brackets will be announced later.

PRIZES

The current prizes are:
-150k PER TEAM for registering and entering a team,
-50k PER TEAM for winning a match
-2 MIL for THE WINNING TEAM

+whatever people want to donate to the prize pool (I'm paying for the prize pool atm)

Puppets are currently known to break the handicaps in Connous Arena, doing full dmg regardless of the %.

There are some things that are confusing too.

You say both sides are 3 member teams but then say "Participants will be asked to wear robes the color of their secondary team (primary team being the blue team, secondary team being the three-member team)", it'd be more clear to just say something like blue team should prepare blue robes and red team should prepare red robes or something and wear them during the event.

Also, the part about restrictions, do you mean something like they can switch to their specialization once per match and then can't go back to bare hands or what?

As for gear, you could just have players not use anything under the robe or something and have them open up equip view as proof of not using any thing.

For Banned Skills, Demi and Trans should probably also be added.

Finally, it might be possible to sub out having the manager be the ball and instead use something like a pet? I haven't tried it yet but I think it is possible to make an AI that is set to not do anything upon getting hit. It'd be funny watching people bash a cloud all over XD...(though it'd un-summon when it dies...)

But this event does sound fun.

I didn't know that the other skills bypassed it. I guess they're banned then.

I mean wear the colors of your team, but for the arena purposes both teams will enter on blue side.

It just means you can't go from a mage to an archer in the same game.

As for gear, you could just have players not use anything under the robe or something and have them open up equip view as proof of not using any thing.
Sounds good to me, but it's probably fine to check any equipment.

For Banned Skills, Demi and Trans should probably also be added.
Demi actually helps to balance out the whole movement speed thing a bit more... but the trans skills GFS and EMM should be banned, yes

Pet AI was broken last time I checked so... probably not.
But this event does sound fun.
